A commissioned series of four papercut maps spanning central London

When might a papercut map commission make sense?

The most common reason is simply that the location is not one that we offer on this website! (Typically centred around a postcode for London or the centre of town for other locations)

Other reasons have included a desire for extra layers (e.g. sandy beaches, buildings), a different scale, the addition of text or a requirement for a series of maps.

Why don’t we just let visitors select and order a map of any location on the website?

Whilst I would dearly love to offer this capability, the unfortunate reality is that not every location works using my ‘standard’ approach. Given that all my designs are made to order and non-refundable, I don’t want to risk accepting payment for an artwork where either you or I might not like the end result. By offering the option of commissions I can add my design experience and expertise to every request on a case-by-case basis, thus ensuring that both sides are happy before any payment is made.

How much will it cost?

Whilst every papercut map commission is considered on an individual basis, prices are typically around £150 for an unframed single layer design and go up to around £250 for a framed & mounted multi-layered map (Dependent on location). These prices include P&P to the UK, gift wrapping and certificate of authenticity and are before any discounts  e.g. sale offers or any agreed discount for volume purchases.

The increase in price over the made-to-order designs offered for sale on our website is primarily down to the fact that for those offered on the website, I spread the cost of the significant design effort over multiple sales.

How long will it take?

Once the design specification has been agreed and payment made, I aim to complete detailed design, manufacture, framing and be ready to ship in around two weeks.
